Alchemist Software Spectrum, Amiga & PC Library 126 Hayward Road, Redfield, Bristol, BS5 9QA Tel 0117 939 4754 Welcome to Alchemist Software. We deal with four types of software: 1 PUBLIC DOMAIN - These are available to all and are technically free. We charge only for media and copying. 2 FREEWARE - This is basically the same as Public Domain software, only they are copyrighted. Although still "freely distributable", they should not be altered or used in a commercial product without the consent of the copyright holder. 3 SHAREWARE - Shareware is an exciting marketing method which allows you to try top quality software before you pay for it. With Shareware, you cannot be disappointed spending money on a program that's not right for you. The copying fee you pay covers only basic costs like electricity, general wear and tear on equipment etc and permits you to evaluate the program. If you continue to use the software, you are expected to send the author an additional payment which may entitle you to technical support, printed manual, bonus programs and more. Your registration payment supports the authors, allowing them to continue writing new and perhaps better software. Please note that Alchemist Software fully supports the Shareware system, and we therefore urge you to register any Shareware title with the relevant author should you continue to use the product(s) after the trial period is over. 4 PENNYWARE - This is a scheme by which authors of software can maintain commercial control over their software, but at the same time allowing anybody to own a legal copy. As long as a fee is paid, no matter how small, the software is considered as a commercial product, and is therefore fully covered by copyright. Non PD/Freeware titles in this catalogue are clearly marked in the catalogue. These tiles are NOT freely re-distributable - they are fully copyrighted programs. It is an offense to re-distribute these titles without written permission from the copyright holder. Pricing +D users and users of +3s with a 3.5" B: drive no longer need to supply media. We now provide all 3.5" disks because we have had problems with some customers supplying faulty media. Each 3.5" disk is 50p Users of tape and +3 3" disks are still required to provide blank media. Obviously since we do not supply the media, prices are less. Copying fee for each tape/3" disk is 25p There is an additional charge of 70p per order to cover return postage and jiffy bags etc. This 70p is per order, and not per disk/tape. PC Users Many of our programs will load directly into the Z80 Emulator program. We can supply the Z80 Emulator (Shareware version) for 50p, on either DD or HD PC media. Please note that this is the SHAREWARE version. Ordering Ordering is simple, each disk/tape has a catalogue number and title. Simply state both the order number and title of each tape/disk you require on the supplied order form. Send your order with payment to the address above. Please make cheques/postal orders payable to T. H. Mossman, and allow 48 hours for us to process your order. If you hear nothing from us after a reasonable amount of time, CONTACT US! Any errors on our part will be dealt with as swiftly as possible. All disks and tapes are checked before we send them to you, but sometimes we mess up - we are only human after all. We will replace without question any disk we supply that proves to be faulty. Simply send it back with a brief note explaining the problem. If you have a fault with media you have supplied yourself, please follow this procedure: 1 Return the disk/tape with a brief note explaining the problem 2 Enclose a new disk/tape in case we find a "hard error" with your original media - in which case, we'll use your new media and return your original, along with the re-recorded replacement. 3 Don't forget to tell us who you are - you'd be surprised at the number of people who don't tell us where to send their order to! Above all, if the error is ours, you pay nothing for the replacement. If the problem is with media you have supplied then we ask only that you supply the return postage. We are happy to pay for our own mistakes, but we do not consider it fair to be expected to pay for yours. Contributions If you have written a program and you feel you'd like to send it to us for inclusion in the library, please feel free to do so. We will credit you (with free software) for anything we can use. Regular contributors to the library can have free access. Due to the fact that sometimes software is withdrawn from the Public Domain, we reserve the right to alter the contents of any disk or tape in the library - to continue distribution would be illegal after all. Other catalogues available from us are for the Amiga and PC. Simply send an SAE, a single floppy disk for the PC catalogue, or two blank floppies for the Amiga catalogue.
